About me

A native New Yorker and lifetime lover of language, I have a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College (Boston, MA) and am currently a staff writer for www.edgeboston.com, www.listenstereo.com, and www.thecriticalcritics.com (for which I write book, music, and film reviews, respectively). I am also a remote editorial intern for East Coast Ink (an Atlanta, GA based literary magazine), an intern for the Carol Mann Agency, the evening supervisor of the St. Joseph's College academic center, a private tutor, and a freelance editor and transcriptionist.

At Emerson, I received extensive formal training in book publishing and copyediting, including the composition of reader's reports/book scans, original manuscript proposals, and marketing plans.

I also participated in six different fiction, nonfiction, and drama writing workshops, in which I both submitted original work and read/responded to the writing of my peers. In the spring semester of my senior year I wrote a 60+ page creative thesis, called Lethologica and Other Stories, which is a collection of four short works of fiction inspired by a series of words no longer commonly used ("Schizocarp," "Nosocomephrenia," "Bialag," and "Kirkbuzzer").

From 2011-2012 I lived in a learning community on campus called Writers' Block; every Sunday, the students on my floor would gather to write and critique each other's work. I was ultimately chosen to be the fiction editor of the Spring 2012 Writers' Block Anthology. As such, I facilitated discussion and voting regarding each fiction submission and organized an open mic event to coincide with the anthology's publication, which includes two pieces of my own short fiction ("Silence" and "Bare Souls") and one poem ("Stroke").

In Decmeber of 2012 I was elected Writing, Literature, and Publishing Senator for Emerson's Student Government Association (SGA), and subsequently re-elected for several consecutive terms until my graduation in May 2014.

SGA itself elected me to serve as the only student representative to Emerson's faculty's Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC) for the 2013-2014 school year, which entailed my attendance at all UCC meetings regarding the proposal and emendation of courses at each of Emerson's campuses.

Over the summer of 2013, I began tutoring professionally, offering help with such subjects as English, History, Government/Politics, and Latin.

The following summer, I interned for www.tourmatters.com, where I researched and wrote tour operator profiles to help travelers make informed decisions about which operators to choose when planning a vacation. I also completed various projects as part of Amazon's Mechanical Turk program and provided live transcription for organizations such as Mass ADAPT.

I spent the fall of 2014 living in Washington, D.C., where I worked as a special projects consultant for the American Nurses Foundation (ANF) in Silver Spring, MD. At the ANF I proofread various materials, assisted with various data entry projects, transcribed board meetings, and assisted with additional miscellaneous office tasks.

Now, in New York, I balance my freelance writing with my job at St. Joseph's College and my internship at the Carol Mann Agency as I continue to work toward my publishing dreams.
